Should I Add a Song to My Account If My Co-Writer Already Registered It?

It depends on a few factors.

If you know for sure that your co-writer already registered their song into their Songtrust account, you do not need to add it to your own account. Please use our Support Form to submit a ticket and reach our Client Services Team instead, and make sure to include the email address associated with your co-writer’s account, as well as the song’s title. You can find this form by logging into your account and finding the link on your client dashboard. Our team will link the registrations for you.

However, if you are unsure whether your co-writer submitted your collaborative work to Songtrust, you should add it to your account with your co-writers outside writers on the registration. If you add a song to your Songtrust account that is already registered with a Performing Rights Organization (PRO), the registrations will merge as long as the information is correct on both registrations.

Please note that if a song has not been added to your account — either by you or the Songtrust team — your royalties will not be sent to us, regardless of whether the song in question is already in your co-writer’s account. When we send a song out for registration, it is not only to register it globally, but also to inform collection societies that we are now managing your publisher’s share. If the song is not in your Songtrust account, there is no way for us to know that we need to claim it on your behalf.
