Do I Need Songtrust in Addition to a Performing Rights Organization (PRO)?

Here’s why you most certainly do.

Songtrust does not replace your Performing Rights Organization (PRO). We help you manage your current PRO catalog and make sure you receive all the performance and mechanical royalties that are generated outside your home territory.

In order to use Songtrust's services, you must be affiliated with a PRO. However, being affiliated with a PRO alone is not enough to collect all the royalties you’re owed worldwide.

Each territory has one or more PROs that are responsible for collecting performance royalties. When you join Songtrust, we register your songs at global PROs to collect performance royalties directly.

Joining Songtrust also gives you the ability to collect mechanical royalties that are not collected by PROs. Mechanical royalties are generated from physical sales and interactive streams (Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal). All Songtrust clients collect from the Harry Fox Agency (HFA), The Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC), and international collection agencies directly.

We also collect from YouTube by claiming and monetizing user-generated content through its Content ID service.
