Can I Join Songtrust If I’m Not Affiliated With ASCAP, BMI or SESAC?

As long as you are registered with another PRO or CMO.

Songtrust acts as your publishing administrator. It’s meant to complement your Performing Rights Organization (PRO), not replace it. Please note that you must be a member of a PRO or CMO to work with Songtrust.

If you are not currently a member of a PRO or CMO, you will need to apply directly on the collection society’s website. To help make this process as seamless as possible, we have created a Collection Society Database that includes the PROs or CMOs in each country and territory with their corresponding information.

Once you are affiliated as a writer, you will receive an IPI number and can register with Songtrust. During the onboarding process, you will be asked to add in details around your PRO/CMO affiliation, so make sure you have your IPI handy.

Once you’re a Songtrust client, your PRO will send the publisher’s share of any performance royalties to us. We combine this with any other royalties (e.g., mechanicals) and distribute everything in one payment (minus our 15% cut).

Note: the writer’s share of public performance royalties will always be sent to you directly by your PRO.
