Why Do You Ask About Ownership for a Song’s Music and Lyrics?

It’s largely a formality.

When adding a song into your account, you must denote whether a songwriter contributed to its lyrics (author), music (composer), or both. However, you do not need to break lyrical and musical contributions down into percentages or shares.

Please note that we are unable to register songs that do not have a musical component (i.e., spoken word). Melodies are a musical component, so an acapella song would qualify, while e.g. a comedy routine or recited poem would not.
