They license on behalf of recording owners, not songwriters.
The Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) is a non-profit organization that provides licenses to Australian businesses, allowing them to play recorded music in a public setting. Since it represents performing artists and record labels, it distributes royalties to them whenever these sound recordings are used.
Please note: The PPCA does not represent the songwriters of a work, only recording rightsholders and performing artists. Therefore, Songtrust does not collect royalties from the PPCA.
If you own recordings, we encourage reaching out to the PPCA directly and learning more about their overall mission and policies here.
