What Is a Video Buyout?
Negotiating sync licenses
A video buyout is a negotiated right normally included in a synchronization license. A video buyout entitles the buyer (licensee) to pay the publisher (licensor) a flat fee for the use of a song rather than pay royalties per unit sold.
Please note that a video buyout in the context of a license does not mean a complete buyout of the rights. In the context of a licensing deal, the 'buyout' of rights listed is only for the rights specified, for the term and uses listed in the license and refers to a one-time payment only.
