What Is a Public Copyright License?

It’s one way a work can be copied or changed without risking infringement.

A public license, or public copyright license, lets (a) copyright holder(s) grant additional copyright permissions to anyone in the general public. By applying a public license to the work, the copyright holder(s) allow anyone to copy or change the work in ways that would otherwise infringe upon their rights.

It is important to note that the licensor can apply their own terms and conditions to a public license, so be sure to look at everything closely before copying or changing the work. Otherwise, you may be infringing on the conditions of said license without even realizing it.
