A free or open license is a license agreement that contains provisions that allow others to reuse an otherwise copyrighted work.

Most open and free licenses are royalty-free, non-exclusive and apply worldwide (i.e not territory exclusive). Because of this, free or open licenses are often the basis of crowdsourcing and/or crowdfunding projects.
