A Collective Management Organization (CMO) refers to any organization that does the following:
• Licenses the use of the rights they manage,
• Monitors that use to enforce the conditions upon which the license was granted, and
• Collects and distributes the royalties payable as a result of the licensed use.
All Performing Rights Organizations (PROs) such as ASCAP and BMI, as well as mechanical societies like the Harry Fox Agency (HFA) and Music Reports are considered CMOs.
