What if I am Already Registered with a Performing Rights Organization (PRO) Using an Alternative Name Other Than my Legal Name?

You can use your alternative names / aliases when adding yourself as a songwriter

If you are already affiliated with a Performing Rights Organization (PRO), it is important that you enter your name and IPI number exactly as it is listed with your PRO. If you registered with your PRO under a name other than your legal name, please enter that name when adding yourself as a writer into your Songtrust account.

Most of the time, songwriters use their legal name. Using a pseudonym is not uncommon, however we recommend using your legal name. Whatever name appears in your writer account with your PRO and on any current registrations is the one that should be entered.

A common issue that arises when someone tries to create a songwriter account with their alternate name is that they mix up their IPI numbers since they may have both their legal name and artist name registered with their PRO. Make sure the information you enter matches your PRO exactly and you should have no problem.

If you are wondering where you can enter  your artist name or stage name, you can do so in the 'Add A Recording' section in the songs page of your account.
