Does Songtrust Take Any Ownership of My Music?

Songtrust clients always keep 100% ownership of their copyrights. This is done through Songtrust granting mechanical and performance licenses to our clients' works, which is a privilege of the client/copyright owner (that they grant to us in our Terms of Service).

This is unlike many traditional publishing agreements, in which rather than having their works licensed, songwriters can be asked to give up some (if not all) of their copyrights to be owned directly by the publishing company.

By keeping 100% of your copyrights, you remain in creative control of your songs and can claim your full share of any royalties owed.

Songtrust simply acts as your publishing administrator, which means we're allowed to register songs and collect royalties on your behalf. At no stage do we claim any ownership.
