Streaming platforms have become one of the music industry's biggest sources of revenue, surpassing physical sales and digital downloads. While the music industry is seeing a surge for streaming, it is still catching up to shift of the digital age. Streaming is still not a direct path to riches for songwriters. The diagram below shows the rates per stream for many streaming platforms. It should be noted that this is for the stream as a whole including the master recording, not just the publishing royalties. As the songwriter, you will earn royalties on the composition only.
